Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant

When an employer pays for short, instructor-led training, this government grant can cover 75% of eligible costs. It is not designed to pay for a full diploma program.

How the grant works

The Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (previously the Canada-Alberta Job Grant) is a cost-sharing program between employers and the Government of Alberta. Employers apply on behalf of their employees for training that improves workplace productivity. You cannot apply as an individual — but you can bring the idea to your employer.

Figures from the Government of Alberta, checked October 2026. Programs and amounts can change — always confirm the current terms on alberta.ca before applying.

What training qualifies

Eligible

  • Training delivered by a third-party provider whose main business is training
  • Skills in one of three areas: business process and operations management, technical skills, or digital and technological skills
  • Training completed within 52 weeks
  • Eligible costs include tuition, textbooks, software, examination fees and other required materials

Not eligible

  • Training toward a diploma or degree where the main purpose is the credential rather than an immediate workplace need
  • Pre-recorded content or self-study with no interaction with an instructor
  • Basic, soft-skills and interpersonal-skills training is not eligible
We will confirm which of our programs and courses can be funded this way. The Government of Alberta decides eligibility for each application.
What this means for Ucademy programs. A full Ucademy diploma will most likely not qualify: part-time it takes longer than 52 weeks, its purpose is a credential, and the grant also expects a well-established provider and live interaction with an instructor. Individual courses or short employer training may qualify — we will confirm which ones. Final decisions are made by the grant office (alberta.ca).
