Frequently asked questions
What is included in the free resources?
There are four downloads. The Program Guide 2026 gives an overview of Ucademy's seven programs and their career paths. The Resume Template & Tips is a clean, one-to-two-page layout you can copy and fill in. The Interview Prep Checklist covers preparing for interviews, questions to ask the employer and the STAR method. The Career-Switch Guide sets out six steps for changing careers, from identifying your transferable skills to applying with confidence.
Do I have to be a Ucademy student to download them?
No. The guides are free and designed to help you whether or not you study with us. You will be asked for your name and email address before the PDF opens; see our Privacy Policy for how that information is handled.
How long should a resume be in Canada, and what should I leave off?
Alberta's career information service, alis, recommends keeping a resume to one or two pages. It advises leaving out a photograph, your Social Insurance Number and personal details such as age, marital status or religion, which can introduce bias and have no place on a Canadian resume. Tailor each resume to the job posting, using the keywords and skills the employer asks for, and proofread carefully. Our Resume Template & Tips download follows the one-to-two-page format.
How do I answer “tell me about a time when…” interview questions?
These are called behavioural questions, and a common way to answer is the STAR method: describe the Situation, the Task you had, the Action you took and the Result. Alberta's alis suggests keeping each part short (two to four sentences) and using numbers to show your results when you can. Our Interview Prep Checklist includes a STAR reminder and common questions to practise.
I’m thinking about changing careers. Where do I start?
Begin by listing the skills you already have that transfer to other fields, then pick a field where Canadian employers are hiring and check what employers there ask for on Job Bank. Our one-minute program quiz can suggest programs that match your interests, and the salary calculator shows typical Alberta wages for related occupations.
