Three career streams, seven programs

Every program is built around one question: what skills do Alberta employers actually need? No prior experience in the field is needed for most programs.

Technology & IT — 4 programs

Foundational IT, software and web development, network security analysis and cybersecurity. From 420-hour certificates to 960-hour diplomas; entry-level programs assume no prior coding or IT experience.

Business & Administration — 2 programs

Administrative Assistant Diploma (806 hours, 12 courses) for office coordination and executive support, and Supply Chain Management for logistics, energy and retail roles.

Healthcare Administration — 1 program

Medical Office Assistant & Unit Clerk Certificate (516 hours, 12 courses): coursework 100% online, followed by a 100-hour supervised administrative practicum — no hands-on patient care.

Why a Ucademy program

What makes Ucademy different from a self-paced video course or a general-purpose MOOC platform.

All materials included

Every reading, exercise, video lecture, assessment and reference document is included — no separate textbook or software purchase.

Built for working adults

No required live sessions. You set your own weekly schedule; suggested timelines are targets, not deadlines.

Career guidance included

Resume and cover letter guidance, interview preparation and insight into the job titles that hire in your field — built into the curriculum. It does not guarantee an outcome.

How to choose your program

Three simple starting points based on the type of work you want to do.

Path 1

I want to work with technology

Start with the IT Professional Certificate (420 hours), the fastest path to a credential. Then:

  1. Software & Web Developer Diploma (960 hours) for development
  2. Security Analyst Certificate (420 hours) for network security
  3. Cybersecurity Specialist Diploma (940 hours, 22 modules) for dedicated security roles
Path 2

I want to work in business or administration

The Administrative Assistant Diploma (806 hours) is the more versatile starting point. Supply Chain Management is more specialised: procurement, logistics, inventory and vendor coordination.

Path 3

Healthcare settings, without clinical work

The Medical Office Assistant & Unit Clerk Certificate (516 hours, 12 courses): medical terminology, health information systems and clinic workflows, completed online plus a 100-hour practicum.

Every Ucademy program is built around a single question: what skills do Alberta employers actually need, and what is the fastest responsible path to those skills? The answer across our curriculum is 4 to 12 months — not four years. You do not need prior experience in the field for most programs. You need commitment, a device with an internet connection, and a clear sense of where you want to work.

All seven programs are fully online and designed around the schedule of a working adult. No commute. No fixed class times. No textbooks to purchase separately — all materials are included. You study at the pace that fits your life, with instructor access and career guidance built in from day one.

The largest stream by program count, reflecting where Alberta's labour market is growing fastest. Covers foundational IT skills, software and web development, network security analysis, and cybersecurity specialisation. Programs range from 420 hours (certificates) to 960 hours (diplomas). Entry-level programs assume no prior coding or IT experience; advanced programs build on skills from earlier credentials. Suitable for career changers entering tech, recent graduates seeking credentials, and working professionals upskilling.

Two practical programs targeting the administrative and operational roles that every organisation — public sector, private sector, non-profit — needs to function. The Administrative Assistant Diploma (806 hours, 12 courses) prepares learners for office coordination, document management, and executive support roles. The Business Administration — Supply Chain Management program addresses a persistent demand in Alberta's logistics, energy, and retail sectors. Both programs emphasise transferable skills applicable across industries.

The Medical Office Assistant & Unit Clerk Certificate (516 hours, 12 courses) opens a path into healthcare settings without clinical work. Medical office assistants handle patient scheduling, records management, billing coding, and front-desk coordination in clinics, hospitals, and specialist offices. Unit clerks manage ward administration on hospital floors. Both roles are found in clinics, hospitals and continuing-care settings across Alberta. Coursework is 100% online, followed by a 100-hour supervised administrative practicum — no hands-on patient care.

There is no shortage of online courses and credentials available to Canadians. Here is what makes Ucademy programs different from a self-paced video course or a general-purpose MOOC platform.

Programs range from 4 to 12 months. A diploma-level credential in technology or administration does not require two to four years of general education requirements, prerequisites, and electives. Every hour of study in a Ucademy program is directed toward the specific skills employers in that field look for. You are not paying for content you do not need — you are paying for the fastest credible path to a new career direction.

Every required reading, practice exercise, video lecture, assessment, and reference document is included in your program. There is no course materials fee, no required textbook purchase, no software subscription you need to buy separately. The cost of your program is the total cost of your program. This is intentional — unexpected costs are one of the most common reasons adult learners drop out of career training programs mid-way through.

Ucademy was designed from the start for people who are already working, parenting, caregiving, or managing commitments that make a fixed-schedule program impossible. There are no required live sessions. You set your own weekly schedule and study when it actually fits your life. The suggested completion timelines are targets, not deadlines imposed from outside. Progress is measured by what you complete and demonstrate, not by hours spent sitting in a virtual classroom at a specific time.

Each program includes access to career resources — resume and cover letter guidance, interview preparation material, and insight into the specific job titles and employer types that hire graduates in that field. This is built into the curriculum rather than offered as a premium add-on. Career guidance does not guarantee any specific outcome, but it ensures you finish your program knowing where to focus your job search and how to present your new credential effectively.

Seven programs across three fields can feel like a lot of decisions. Here are three simple starting points based on the type of work you want to do.

Start with the IT Professional Certificate (420 hours) — it builds the foundational networking, hardware, and systems knowledge that all IT roles require, and it is the fastest path to a credential. From there, two directions open up: if you want to move into software and application development, the Software & Web Developer Diploma (960 hours) covers front-end and back-end development in depth. If cybersecurity interests you, the Security Analyst Certificate (420 hours) provides intermediate-level network security skills, and the Cybersecurity Specialist Diploma (940 hours, 22 modules) takes you to a specialised level suitable for dedicated security roles. The IT certificate is a natural precursor to both security programs.

Two programs address this stream. The Administrative Assistant Diploma (806 hours, 12 courses) is the broader credential — covering office management, written communication, scheduling, records management, and executive support. It prepares you for administrative roles across any industry. The Business Administration — Supply Chain Management program is more specialised, targeting procurement, logistics, inventory management, and vendor coordination roles — fields with strong ongoing demand in Alberta's energy, retail, and transportation sectors. If you are not sure which industry you want to work in, the Administrative Assistant Diploma is the more versatile starting point.

The Medical Office Assistant & Unit Clerk Certificate (516 hours, 12 courses) is designed for exactly this situation. Healthcare administration roles — scheduling patients, managing records, processing billing codes, coordinating between clinical departments — require specific knowledge of medical terminology, health information systems, and clinic workflows, but they do not require any clinical training or patient care responsibilities. This program is completed entirely online, with no practicum placement required. It is a realistic path into one of Alberta's most stable employment sectors without requiring years of training.

The Ucademy Program Guide is a single PDF covering all seven programs — full course breakdowns, estimated study hours per module, what the credential prepares you for, and the types of roles that hire in each field. It also includes a side-by-side comparison of all programs by length, credential type, and stream.
