Draft for review. This policy is provided in draft form while Ucademy’s licensure in Alberta is pending, and will be finalized and confirmed against current provincial requirements before enrolment opens.

1Purpose

This policy explains how student work is assessed and graded at Ucademy, the standards for passing courses and completing a program, and how Ucademy supports students who are not making satisfactory progress.

2How you are assessed

Each course outline lists its assessments and their weight. Depending on the course, assessments may include quizzes, assignments, practical labs and projects, a final assessment, and — for programs that include one — a supervised practicum or internship evaluated by your workplace supervisor and Ucademy.

3Grading scale

PercentageLetter gradeMeaning
90–100AExcellent
80–89BVery good
70–79CGood
60–69DPass
Below 60FFail
—P / NPPass / not pass (practicum, internship and some skills checks)
—IIncomplete (approved extension in progress)

The minimum passing grade for a course is 60% unless the course outline sets a higher standard for a specific skill.

4Quizzes, resubmissions and rewrites

  • Practice and module quizzes can be retaken; the highest score counts.
  • Assignments that do not meet the standard may be resubmitted once after instructor feedback, within the time the instructor sets.
  • Final assessments may be rewritten once if you do not pass. A passed rewrite is recorded at the minimum passing grade.
  • If you still do not pass, you may repeat the course once. Repeating may involve an additional fee, stated in your enrolment contract.

5Late work and extensions

Because programs are self-paced, most deadlines are set with your instructor or advisor. If illness, family responsibilities or other circumstances get in the way, ask for an extension before the deadline. Approved extensions are recorded as Incomplete (I) until the work is submitted.

6Satisfactory academic progress

Ucademy reviews each student’s progress at least monthly against the expected pace for their program.

  1. Check-in. If you fall behind or fail an assessment, your advisor contacts you to offer support.
  2. Academic plan. If concerns continue, you and your advisor agree a written plan with steps and dates.
  3. Academic probation. If the plan is not followed, you may be placed on probation for a set period, with conditions in writing.
  4. Withdrawal. If probation conditions are not met, Ucademy may withdraw you. Any refund follows the Tuition Refund and Withdrawal Policy.

7Time limit to complete

You are expected to finish your program within one and a half times its scheduled length, not counting an approved leave of absence. Extensions beyond this limit may be approved in exceptional circumstances.

8Graduation requirements

To receive your certificate or diploma you must pass every course in the program, complete any required practicum or internship, and meet any outstanding financial obligations. Credentials are issued as described in the Student Records and Transcripts Policy.

9Grade appeals

If you believe a grade is wrong, first talk to your instructor within 10 days. If not resolved, submit a written appeal within 15 days of the instructor’s response. A senior administrator not involved in the original decision reviews it, and a written decision is provided within 10 business days. You may also use the Student Complaint and Dispute Resolution Policy.

10Academic integrity

All assessed work must be your own. Plagiarism, cheating and other academic misconduct are handled under the Student Code of Conduct.
